Hallelujah I got django working on Dreamhost! It was one of those things where I just had to sit down and power through it one night. It was easy enough to get FastCGI running and displaying a django project... the hard part was getting the gitosis server set up for deploying. This is still not a perfect setup but at least I'm over the initial hurdle and can now futz with it freely.
